European Organization for Nuclear Research

Criteria for inclusion in the Grey Book

Institutes

Institutes appear for a given experiment if the Experiment Secretariat has created a link between the experiment and the institute (a "Team") and has set the flag which indicates that the Team participation in the experiment is officially recognised.

People

People appear in the Grey Book if:

Only those people who can sign Physics papers for the collaboration should appear, hence normally only physicists and engineers. Technicians may exceptionally appear if the Spokesperson considers that they have made an important contribution.

Names appear as follows:

If a person wishes to appear in the Grey Book with a name other than the one in their passport, a pseudonym is entered.

The experiment secretariat is responsible for entering the pseudonym, but it can also be entered by the Users' Office when a person registers for the first time.

·         Only the first name is used (no middle names are displayed)

·         The Last name is always in uppercase

·         The Preferred name is ignored

·         Names are always displayed in the "First LAST" format

NOTE: A full list of all people attached to an experiment, irrespective of the Grey Book flag being set, can be seen via the link “Complete list of members“, which is available on each experiment page.

Experiments

Only those experiments approved by the Research Board appear in the Grey Book. When an experiment is approved, the Grey Book secretariat contacts the spokesperson for the necessary details.

The experiments normally appear under the appropriate programme, with all the participants listed, until two years following the year of completion, after which they only appear in the "Completed" section.

Experiments or projects not approved by the Research Board can be seen via the “EXPERIMENTS UNDER STUDY” button.

NOTE: To find the contact details of an experiment secretariat, please consult the Experiment Secretariats list.

The Grey Book secretariat (part of the Users' Office) acts as secretariat for those experiments without a secretariat at CERN.
